Present tense: -are, -ere, -ire verbs

Three groups of regular verbs, and the ending tells you who is doing the action.

Italian verbs are grouped by their infinitive ending: -are (parlare), -ere (prendere), -ire (dormire). Remove the ending and add the endings in the table.

Many -ire verbs add -isc- in the singular and in the loro form: capire → io capisco, loro capiscono (also finire, preferire, pulire).

Subject pronouns are usually dropped, because the ending shows the person: Parlo italiano. I speak Italian.
