The imperativo gives orders, advice and instructions.
- tu: -are verbs end in -a (parla!, guarda!); -ere / -ire verbs end in -i (prendi!, senti!).
- noi and voi are the same as the present: andiamo! mangiate!
- Lei (formal) uses the congiuntivo: Prenda! Scusi! Venga!
- Negative tu = non + infinitive: Non parlare! Non toccare!
- Pronouns attach to the tu / noi / voi forms: Aspettami! Sbrigati! Andiamoci! — but go before the Lei form: Mi dica!
Short tu forms: va' (andare), fa' (fare), da' (dare), sta' (stare), di' (dire). With a pronoun the consonant doubles: dimmi, fammi, dammi.
